Gabby Otchere-Darko Accused of Misrepresenting Ashanti MPs’ Decisions
  • Ashanti NPP MPs rejected Gabby Otchere-Darko’s claim that they preferred community roads over flyovers.
  • Caucus emphasized no meetings or decisions on such preferences ever took place.
  • MPs acknowledged past development efforts but noted they fall short of matching the region’s political contributions.
  • Commitment to advocating for strategic, high-impact infrastructure projects like flyovers and expressways was reaffirmed.
  • The Caucus demanded verifiable evidence from Otchere-Darko or a public retraction.
  • Incident highlights the need for accurate political commentary and equitable infrastructure planning.

The Ashanti Regional Parliamentary Caucus of the NPP has refuted claims suggesting that Ashanti MPs deliberately prioritized community roads over flyovers, a statement recently made by party elder Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko. The Caucus labelled the allegations as inaccurate, emphasizing that no such decisions or meetings occurred regarding the region’s infrastructure.

The MPs highlighted that, although the Ashanti Region has benefited from past government initiatives such as road improvements, school and hospital construction, market redevelopment, and industrial projects, these efforts have not fully reflected the region’s significant contribution to the party’s electoral victories.

The Caucus affirmed their commitment to championing high-impact infrastructure projects in the region, including modern interchanges, flyovers, expressways, and other strategic developments aimed at improving trade, mobility, and industrial growth. They stressed that future administrations should prioritize closing infrastructural gaps to ensure equitable development across all regions.

The group also challenged Gabby Otchere-Darko to provide concrete evidence supporting his claims, warning that any unverified statements undermine party unity and unfairly cast the Ashanti populace as scapegoats.

Reflective Opinion

This episode illustrates the tension that can arise when political commentary intersects with regional pride and development expectations.

The Ashanti Caucus’s firm response underscores the importance of accountability and fact-checking, particularly within party structures. Beyond internal party dynamics, the situation highlights broader expectations for transparent, results-driven governance.

When leaders make claims that appear unfounded, it can erode public trust and distract from real development needs. Ensuring that discussions about infrastructure are evidence-based is critical to promoting cohesion, credibility, and the equitable delivery of public projects.
